Which company is harder to get an EM offer at from a PM background?

Amazon is harder for PMs transitioning to EM because the bar raiser evaluates whether you’ve actually managed and grown engineers. If you’ve only managed ICs without direct reports, Amazon will flag this. Meta focuses more on demonstrated impact at scale; a PM with cross-functional leadership experience can pass even without formal management experience.

Can you interview at both companies simultaneously?

Yes. The processes have no mutual exclusivity. Amazon typically completes loops faster (5 days vs. 5-7 weeks at Meta). If you receive an Amazon offer, you can use it as leverage at Meta—and vice versa. Recruiters at both companies expect candidates to have competing offers and will accelerate timelines if you disclose them.

What happens if you fail one company’s EM loop—can you reapply?

Amazon enforces a 12-month cooling-off period after rejection. Meta enforces 6 months. However, internal referrals significantly improve reapplication success rates. At Amazon, a bar raiser rejection is logged in the system permanently; a subsequent application requires a different bar raiser to override the prior signal. At Meta, the system does not carry forward prior feedback—each loop is evaluated independently.
